Beacon Pointe represents a new vision and life for the area.  This multi-phase initiative will  replace the superblock mentality, revive the community and reweave this area into the fabric of the community.  On March 17th, 2011, BHMA received an award for over $9.6M in Low Income Housing Tax Credits to help finance phase I of this project.

Beacon Pointe is an initiative designed to begin the transformation and revitalization of six city blocks of public housing, commonly known as the Bambo Harris and Riverside Homes residential areas on Front Street, Hamilton OH.  Prior to 1940, this part of the city represented a significant residential and economic area of downtown Hamilton and was well integrated with the overall economic, social and residential core of the Hamilton downtown fabric.

In the 1940’s, a 141-unit public housing project known as the Bambo Harris Homes, was developed, but resulted in a Housing “superblock”  that ultimately created a sub-community inside the area – creating mental and physical barriers from the economic and social structure between public and private living.

In 2007, BHMA demolished the then deteriorating homes on the Bambo Harris site to pave the way for future development.

A New Beginning

Beacon Pointe represents a new vision and life for the area.  This multi-phase initiative will  replace the superblock mentality, revive the community and reweave this area into the fabric of the community.  On March 17th, 2011, BHMA received an award for over $9.6M in Low Income Housing Tax Credits to help finance phase I of this project.

The first phase will consist of 60 new townhouse-style units with a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom living areas to support a variety of individuals, family structures and income levels.  BHMA will work closely with the City of Hamilton and residents to ensure a smooth adoption of the development within the area.  Other on-site amenities such as a game room, fitness center and a community room for residents to use, are included as part of Phase I.

Outdoor amenities will include a playground, sidewalks, adequate parking a picnic area and a community garden.

Development of Beacon Pointe will begin in late 2011 / early 2012 with an estimated construction time of 12-16 months.  Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc. will manage the construction project and manage the selection of vendors.  We estimate this project will bring $8-10M in economic growth  to the Hamilton, Ohio area.
